Medical oxygen forms the base of surgical procedures that may be required for various reasons such as carbon monoxide poisoning, sudden respiratory and cardiac arrest, accidents, etc. In such cases, compressed medical oxygen increases the oxygen level to normal and helps in restoration of “tissue oxygen tension”. This medicinal gas (compressed) has no contradictions what so ever but in case of infants and patients having emphysema or chronic bronchitis, its inspired concentration must be kept at limited level. Further, it is important to ensure that proper concentrations of medical oxygen are not surpassed. This is ascertained via cautious monitoring of oxygen levels on tissue, blood and breath. Another important point is that lactation and pregnancy are not not adversely affected with medical oxygen.
