An artificial lens, Intraocular Lens (IOL) are implanted by surgeons to patch the eye's crystalline lens, during the treatment of cataracts or myopia. This is needed because the latter lens needs to be removed after it turns cloudy. Intraocular Lens main job is same as normal healthy eye lens, i.e., to focus the light onto the retina. Pseudophakic IOLs are its most common type that are used for cataract treatment. Another common version of Intraocular Lens is Phakic Intraocular Lens (PIOL), which is used in refractive surgery.
