A Trinocular Microscope is a binocular microscope or a compound microscope with an additional in-built third port. A binocular microscope contains two eye ports corresponding to two human eyes. The third port in a trinocular microscope refers to the port which is used for microphotography and video applications. This additional port is generally located on top of the microscope head. However, it can be fixed horizontally or off to the side also. In this way, the two ports meant for human eyes remain free for unhindered observation of the specimen by researchers or analysts. In the third port, camera is fixed for remote observation.
