Spotting Plates are very handy laboratory apparatus suitable for observing colour or chemical reactions. The apparatus is extensively used in semi-micro chemistry for getting an overview of an on-going chemical reaction. The plate is an arrangement of semi-hemispherical depressions lined in rectangular shape. The depressions may vary in depth and diameter depending on the nature of chemical or colour reactions to be undertaken.

Spotting plates made of porcelain possess high resistant features to external temperature. These are designed to withstand sudden change in temperatures that may result in cracks or deformation. Such plates are also resistant to acid and alkali. Besides its main use, a spotting plate is of good utility in stock photography.
