A Funnel is a useful piece of laboratory equipment with a narrow pipe pointing downwards of a wide crater like opening on the top. It is primarily used to pour down liquid or other fine-grained material into a container. Completing such tasks with a funnel avoids spillage of the liquid or the material being poured down into the container.
Funnels are normally made of stainless steel, aluminum, glass, or plastic. From a technical point of view, the material used in its construction should be strong enough to hold the weight of the substance being transferred and it should not react with the substance. For this reason, funnel made of stainless steel or glass is useful in transferring diesel whereas plastic funnels are useful in the kitchen.
