A Centrifuge is a type of equipment driven by an electric motor. The equipment is used to separate dense substances in a liquid medium by the effect of rotation. Centrifuge works on the sedimentation principle. The in-built motor puts the object in rotation around a fixed axis, applying a force perpendicular to the axis. As per the operating principle, the centripetal acceleration causes the dense materials to separate out along the radial direction i.e. bottom of the tube. By virtue of the same principle, lighter objects move in the upward direction.
