A spirometer is a medical device that is used for measuring the volume of air inhales and exhaled by the lungs. Spirometer is efficient in catching the abnormalities related to lung by recording the amount of air and the rate of air inhaled or exhaled, specifically known as respiration flow rates over a given period of time. Spirometer equipment is used for basic Pulmonary Function Tests (PFTs). It helps to recognize the problems or the condition of patient’s lungs, helping to diagnose the diseases such as bronchitis, asthma, and emphysema. It also helps to identify the causes of shortness of breath, effects of contaminants on lung functions, effects of treatment and medication, progress of the treatment.
