An Otoscope also known as auriscope is a medical instrument that is used to look into the ears and noses. It is used to diagnose the abnormalities related to ears and noses, specifically or during the regular check-ups and other illness. Otoscope helps in getting a view of outer ear and middle ear. Otoscope comprises a head and handle, where the head has a light source and a simple low-power magnifying glass, mostly around 8 diopters. The examiner with an otoscope can look through the patients’ ear by placing it into the external ear. To avoid any injury to the ear canal, examiner should place the index finger against the head of the patient.
