In a Lab, it is normally applied using an ultrasonic bath or an ultrasonic probe, also known as a Sonicator.
A sonicator uses focused ultrasound frequencies to disperse, break up and sheer samples of material in chemical, biological, industrial and environmental applications. You place a sample inside the sonicator's water bath and then turn it on. The narrowly focused sound waves reverberate in the chamber, increasing the strength of the vibrations to efficiently break up material.
