An Osmometer is a basic laboratory equipment used for measuring the osmotic strength of a solution, colloid, or compound. Three major types of Osmometers are commercially available, each with a particular colligative property to achieve their analytical results:

Freezing Point Osmometers : Ascertains the osmotic strength of a solution depending on the freezing point depression.

Vapor Pressure Osmometers : Ascertains the concentration of osmotically active particles which brings down the vapor pressure of a solution.

Membrane Osmometers : Measures the osmotic pressure of a solution separated by a semi-permeable membrane.
