A Beaker is a piece of laboratory glassware serving as a container for stirring, mixing and heating liquids. Mostly available in cylindrical shape with a flat bottom, these are commonly used in many scientific and research laboratories. Often the beakers come with a small spout or beak to help in pouring down liquids. As per the requirements, beakers are available in sizes ranging from one millilitre up to several litres.
Beaker are generally manufactured using glass usually borosilicate glass but can also be made of metals like stainless steel or aluminium, or certain plastics primarily polythene, polypropylene and PTFE). Beakers are often marked on the side for measuring the volume of liquid contained. Though, graduated cylinder or flask is more appropriate obtaining precise readings but beakers are used to get a rough estimation.
