A Calorimeter is an instrument used in the process called calorimetry. In this process, calorimeter measures the heat produced during chemical reactions or physical. A crude design of a calorimeter consists of metal container full of water suspended above a combustion chamber and attached to the containers is a thermometer, which is used for calculating temperature changes. Key techniques for arriving at accurate results starts with a dry calorimeter, measuring solution volumes exactly, and determining change in temperature precisely.

Calorimeters come in various types depending on the nature of physical or chemical activities to be conducted. Some of the most commonly found calorimeters are differential scanning calorimeters, isothermal microcalorimeters, titration calorimeters and accelerated rate calorimeters.
